Ahimsa - a Yogic Principle

What is Ahimsa and how can it help you to reduce stress and anxiety?

Ahimsa is one of Yoga’s principles.

To practice Ahimsa is to not harm others or, importantly for anxiety relief, oneself physically, mentally or verbally.

As humans, we tend to speak more kindly to others (and our pets) than we do to ourselves 🧡

A way to incorporate this during Yoga practice would be to notice body sensation without casting judgement or having an internal commentary about it, but to just ‘be’ and ‘feel’.

I often say to my students during their practice, “Be kind to yourself”, as I can see by their facial expressions that they are giving themselves a hard time 😩

I would encourage you to take this concept off your mat and into your day.

You may be surprised just how often you tend to be harsh on yourself.

Let’s try to change that 😄

Be patient and keep practising every day.

It will take some time to change the habit of a lifetime.

By changing the way you relate to yourself in this way is one step closer to rewiring your anxious mind.
